Clinical Pilates in Pregnancy and Postpartum
Clinical Pilates is a great form of exercise for pregnant and postpartum clients. It is a wonderful way to empower pregnant people to maintain and develop muscular strength and mobility throughout their pregnancy. One of the foundational tenets of pilates is to teach a connection between the breath, the abdominal muscles and the pelvic floor, which can be extremely beneficial in preparation for labour. It can help to ease aches and pains throughout pregnancy and postpartum, is an excellent way to rehab the pelvic floor and abdominal wall after delivery, and helps patients transition back to doing the activities they love.
What else does it treat?
Clinical Pilates is beneficial for clients with postural pain, back pain, neck pain and other acute or long-standing musculoskeletal injuries or conditions. It is also excellent for treating persistent pain as it involves a focus on breathwork and ease of movement, while still taking into account a patient’s injuries or limitations. We strive to design an individualized rehabilitation program that focuses on each patient’s functional goals.
Benefits of Clinical Pilates include:
improved body awareness
increased core strength
decreased muscle and joint pain
improved flexibility and freedom of movement
