Chiropractic FAQ

  • Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. As chiropractors, we are able to determine how these dysfunctions can affect our current health.
It is a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. In addition to broad diagnostic skills, Chiropractors are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises and provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle assistance.

  • Spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment is the most common therapeutic procedure performed by chiropractors. This restores joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of tissue injury. Tissue injury, whether from a single event or repetitive stress, causes the tissue to undergo chemical and physical changes that can include inflammation, pain, and diminished mobility and function. Restored mobility, through adjustment, can alleviate pain and muscle tightness assisting in tissue repair.

  • Our Chiropractors practice using a variety of techniques as one technique does not necessarily work for everyone or for every condition. They commonly uses techniques such as diversified (what most people think of as chiropractic adjusting), webster technique, drop table, activator, Sacro-occipital technique, and flexion distraction. Their techniques vary in force and some can be gentle enough for newborns or people with osteoporosis.

  • Our Chiropractors are able to treat the general adult population as well as geriatric populations. Specifically, Dr. Newton has also done extensive training in the areas of pregnancy and pediatrics and loves working with pregnant patients as well as children and babies.

  • At your new patient appointment there is extra time scheduled to go over a detailed health history, any imaging you may have had done, and assess the current conditions that brought you into the office. Dr. Newton will then go over what specifically your treatment will look like and talk about a detailed treatment plan tailored to you. A new patient appointment will also include treatment that day if it is safe to do so. This appointment usually takes 30-45 minutes.

A follow up appointment will consist of the treatments discussed during your initial visit but can include adjustments using various techniques, some muscle work, dry cupping, exercises/stretches, and lifestyle/nutrition coaching. This appointment takes about 15 minutes
